About Kathy
Kathy Florence Spradley was first elected to the Board in May of 2022. She is a lifelong resident of Grapevine and comes from a long line of generations dedicated to GCISD and the community. A 1991 graduate of Grapevine High School, Kathy attended Cannon Elementary and Grapevine Middle School.
Her husband of 22 years, Shawn Spradley, is a 1993 GHS graduate and attended Colleyville Middle School. Kathy and Shawn have two sons. Hudson is a 2023 GHS graduate and current Texas Tech Red Raider. Nash is a junior trombone player at GHS. Both are fifth-generation GCISD students. Kathy serves on the GCISD Walk of Honor Board of Directors. She chaired the publicity committee, is the former Vice President of the board and is currently chair of the selection committee. She is active in the GHS Alumni Association, serving as a judge in the homecoming parade each year.
Kathy was inducted into the GHS Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Alumni in 2023. Very involved at her church, Kathy has served on the Endowment Fund Board and the Adult Council Youth Ministry, helped pioneer the student leadership team, volunteered for youth mission trips, and taught high school Sunday school. While serving her family and community, Kathy has worked for an international apparel company for 22 years in many capacities including field staff management, field marketing management, omni retail execution management, and, most recently, U.S. wholesale operations management.
Kathy feels passionately about family, faith, students, and her community. Her parents, David and Darlene Florence, are GHS graduates, class of ’66. Her mother was an elementary teacher and her father served on the Grapevine City Council and then as the City of Grapevine municipal judge from 1980-2015. Kathy’s parents led by example in serving the community, instilling pride, and demonstrating that it is an honor to give back to the amazing place where they live.

Experience Matters.
Kathy is honored to serve the students, staff, and greater community as a Trustee for GCISD. The community has faced unprecedented challenges, but Kathy has proven over and over that she can build meaningful relationships and can face challenges with grace and without hesitation. She has a knack for turning difficulties into constructive and productive projects. GCISD’s mission is education.
Kathy is proud to have helped to ensure that our students get the best education possible and that GCISD overachieves its mission. Honoring our legacy, achieving excellence, and equipping for the future are the things to which Kathy is wholeheartedly dedicated.
My Family's History in GCISD
Let’s take a trip throughout my family's long history in Grapevine as well as growing up in GCISD.

1880- my great great great grandparents settled in the Minters chapel community of Grapevine with their 9 children.
1901- my great great aunt graduated Grapevine College.
1907- Grapevine College, a then private boarding school was designated a state high school. This originated Grapevine High School.
1919- That same great aunt that graduated above…yeah, she became the principal of Grapevine High School .
1922- my great aunt Cora McCollum graduated GHS. I recently presented Dr. Ryan with her high school diploma on the day I was sworn in. 100 years to the day as the diploma was dated May 23, 1922. It will be displayed in the stadium press box.
1924- my great grandmother graduated GHS. She was my “Mamaw” and I was her favorite (but don’t tell the others ).
1948- my grandfather W.C. Tillery graduated GHS. He was also the star quarterback wearing the number 22.
1949- my grand uncle Jerry Grantham graduated GHS. He went on to do some amazing things for this district. In 1965 he was elected to the school board and served as president from 1968-1975. He was the reason we have a CTE program and considered that his greatest accomplishment during his time on the board.
1966- My mother Darlene Tillery graduates GHS as does my Father David Florence.
1970- my aunt Lynette Tillery graduated GHS.
1971- my aunt Nancy Tillery graduated GHS
1975- Grapevine ISD becomes Grapevine Colleyville ISD.
1991- Now it’s MY TURN! I graduated GHS as does my cousin Jake Large. WooHoo !
1993- my husband (although not family yet) graduates GHS.
1996- my cousin Brandi Large graduates GHS.
1997- my brother Matt Florence graduates GHS
2000- my father David Florence is honored with the GHS Hall of fame distinguished alumni award.
2005- my 2nd cousin Keith Grantham is honored with the GHS distinguished alumni/Hall of fame award.
2019- my 1st cousin once removed Regan Large graduates from CHHS
2020- my first cousin once removed Connor Large graduates from CHHS
2022- I am elected to the GCISD Board of trustees and named Secretary.
2022- My son Nash Spradley starts his freshman year at GHS.
2022- My first cousin once removed starts his junior year at CHHS.
2023- My son Hudson Spradley graduated GHS
As you can see…my family is deeply rooted. We have a love of this district that is unrivaled. This “Family tree” is really more of a dense forest with even more than listed above. I am here, as a trustee because I love this district and want to do my part in serving my community.
I stand on the shoulders of my family that went before me and am so proud to be in this role. That’s the TRUTH. I’m held to a high standard with my family to be an advocate of GCISD.
